Established in 1998 by Max & Velda Smith, Civil Engineer Max wanted to plant the Vineyard right where the Weka River flowed. He planted the Vineyard amongst the limestone silts and gravels of what was once the Weka River braided flats. Hence the name Whitestone. It has the added protection of natural hills running the length of the vines on the eastern side – further capturing the sun on its daily travels from east to west, for ultimate ripening of the fruit. These wines show all the fabulous terrior characteristics of the region and winemaker Scott Berry is careful to ensure the wines retain their unique personalities.
