Buy wine from Omihi Creek
Omihi Creek is set in the picturesque Waipara Valley of New Zealand. Sparkling Cassis [French for blackcurrant] is rich in antioxidants and bursting with flavour - the perfect refreshment. The wine has a distinctive dark purple colour that leaves a bold impression as it cascades into your glass and you are immediately greeted with the delicious aroma of freshly picked blackcurrants.
New Zealand is to the world of blackcurrants, what France is to the world of wine.
Blackcurrants and wine share some interesting similarities too. Just as the sauvignon blancs of NZ have increased
flavour attributes due to the terrior, our blackcurrants have increased nutraceutical values for the
same reason. Traces of the magic ’m’ molecule (methoxypyrazine) that makes our sauvignon blanc so good, is also in our
blackcurrants.
30% of NZ’s production is consumed here, mainly as juice and lately as powder capsules for people with Alzheimers
and industry scientists are exploring its benefits for Parkinson’s disease.
High anti-oxidant and anthocyanin levels in blackcurrants are proving to have a major role in recovery from
physical and mental stress and help prevent the degeneration of the eye.
A truly ‘function food’ source.
Global production of blackcurrants is 200,000 tonnes per annum. The northern hemisphere produces 150,000
tonnes with half that figure grown in Poland.
New Zealand produces 10,000 tonnes and is acknowledged as the leader in the development of
pioneering research.
